Best Yogurt Flatbread

There's something magical about fresh, warm bread that makes everything better. But who has time for all that kneading, rising, and waiting? Not me, and probably not you either! That's why I'm absolutely thrilled to share my easy yogurt flatbread recipe with you today – it's the 10-minute miracle that's about to change your weeknight dinner game forever.

Why You'll Love This Yogurt Flatbread Recipe

Let me tell you a little secret: this yogurt flatbread has saved me from countless "there's nothing to eat" moments. One minute I'm staring into my fridge wondering what to make, and fifteen minutes later I'm tearing into warm, pillowy flatbread that makes even the simplest meal feel special.

The best part? You likely have everything you need in your kitchen right now. Greek yogurt gives these yogurt flatbreads a subtle tang and amazing texture, while keeping them lower in fat than traditional recipes. They're the perfect canvas for everything from hummus to leftover chicken, or simply brushed with garlic butter when you need comfort food ASAP.

What You'll Need for Perfect Yogurt Flatbread

  • ¾ cup plain Greek yogurt (I use non-fat and it works perfectly!)
  • 1 cup self-raising flour (or all-purpose flour + 1 teaspoon baking powder)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Olive oil spray for cooking

That's it! These simple ingredients combine to create the perfect yogurt flatbread with amazing texture. Who said homemade bread had to be complicated?

Let's Make Some Magic

  1. In a large bowl, combine your flour and a pinch of salt. (If you're using all-purpose flour instead of self-raising, add that teaspoon of baking powder now.)
  2. Add the yogurt and give it a stir with a wooden spoon. Then get your hands dirty! Mix until it forms a rough ball in the bowl.
  3. Transfer your dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 3-5 minutes until smooth. If it's sticking to your hands like it's trying to become a permanent addition to your fingerprints, just sprinkle in a bit more flour. Don't worry – this dough is very forgiving!
  4. Let the dough rest for 10 minutes. This is the perfect time to pour yourself a glass of wine, set the table, or frantically tidy up before anyone notices the kitchen tornado that just happened.
  5. Cut the dough into 4 equal pieces and roll them into balls. Using a rolling pin (or wine bottle in a pinch – we've all been there!), flatten each ball into a circle about 6-7 inches wide. Remember to dust with flour as needed and flip the dough occasionally while rolling.
  6. Heat a pan over medium-high heat and give it a light spray of olive oil. Cook each flatbread for 2-3 minutes until bubbles appear, then flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes until golden and puffed.
  7. Transfer to a plate and cover with a clean kitchen towel to keep warm while you cook the rest.

Serving Ideas for Your Homemade Yogurt Flatbread

These yogurt flatbreads are ridiculously versatile. Here are some of my favorite ways to enjoy them:

  • Tear them into pieces for dipping into my favorite Caprese Dip or any of these crowd-pleasing dip recipes
  • Use as a base for quick pizzas – just add sauce, cheese, and pop under the broiler
  • Make the most amazing breakfast wrap with scrambled eggs and avocado
  • Create a Greek-inspired wrap with hummus, cucumber, and feta
  • Simply brush with garlic butter and sprinkle with herbs for an elevated side bread, as recommended by culinary experts

Frequently Asked Questions

My flatbreads didn't puff up as much as yours. What went wrong?

Make sure your pan is hot enough before adding the dough. If it's not hot enough, they won't get that beautiful rise. Also, check that your baking powder is fresh if you're using all-purpose flour.

Can I add herbs or spices to the dough?

Definitely! I love adding 1 teaspoon of dried herbs like rosemary, thyme, or za'atar. For a garlic version, mix in ½ teaspoon of garlic powder with the flour.

Can I freeze these flatbreads?

Yes! Let them cool completely, then place parchment paper between each flatbread before freezing in a ziplock bag. They'll keep for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature and reheat as directed above.

How do I store leftover flatbreads?

Store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. To reheat, sprinkle with a little water and warm them in a pan or microwave for about 20 seconds. They become even more flexible when reheated!

Can I make these gluten-free?

Absolutely! I've had great success using a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend plus 1 teaspoon of xanthan gum if your blend doesn't already include it. The texture may be slightly different, but they're still delicious.

Can I use regular yogurt instead of Greek yogurt?

You can, but it might make your dough a bit wetter since Greek yogurt is strained. If using regular yogurt, you may need to add 2-3 extra tablespoons of flour to achieve the right consistency.

A Little Personal Note

This yogurt flatbread recipe reminds me so much of weekend mornings in my mom's kitchen. She'd whip up flatbreads similar to these, and we'd gather around still in our pajamas, tearing off pieces and dipping them into whatever she had prepared. Those simple moments – with messy hair, warm bread, and family laughter – are what cooking is all about for me.

I hope this recipe brings a little bit of that joy to your kitchen too. And if you're looking for more quick ideas to bring people together around the table, check out my make-ahead appetizers or these adorable Cheesy Garlic Bliss Bombs that pair perfectly with these flatbreads!
